Dolophilodes distinctus

Emerging Dolophilodes

Dolophilodes distinctus, Family Philopotamidae
This winter-hatching caddis runs across the surface to reach stones or ice before casting off its pupal casing. On some cold tailwaters like the Farmington in Connecticut it emerges practically all year long. Thanks to Carl Richards to providing species identification.
